Unfortunately, this scene depicts me nearly every night. No matter how much I know about technology, no matter how many articles I read about how study after study proves that social media is terrible for me, I can’t put my phone down.
I always thought of myself as curious, but over the pandemic, I had developed a gnawing fear that I was just irredeemably addicted. In the time since I’ve understood that this wasn’t entirely my fault. I’ve learned how social media sites use the same techniques to keep users engaged as casinos do, how psychologically they give us everything we want and manipulate us into doing whatever will make them more ad revenue.
It’s absurd to make children choose between all of the information in the world and the backs of their own eyelids, yet here we are.
